Terms of Service
By becoming a member of Know Thy Food you agree to the following Terms of Service:
1. You are a natural person of legal age intending to purchase food for your and your household's own personal consumption. You will not resell any of the products obtained through Know Thy Food.
2. You understand that Know Thy Food is not a retail operation, but a direct-to-consumer pre-order food buying club. This means your orders are aggregated with other members' orders for the group to enjoy wholesale pricing on bulk lots of food. Once the food is in our group's custody, every member is personally responsible for the safety of the food. You acknowledge that you are personally assuming any and all food safety risks including risk assumed by consuming uninspected farm-direct products. You will indemnify and hold harmless Know Thy Food, its operators, and members of any ill effects of the consumption of foods bought in this manner.
3. Every order you place is a legally enforceable contract to pay for the groceries ordered. If you fail to pick up your order, you are still obligated to pay for the items you ordered. Everything in your online shopping basket when the order cycle closes is an order for those products. The software does not have a "checkout" page. When you place something in your shopping cart, it stays there unless you remove it (you can remove or add items until the order cycle closes).
4. All orders must be pre-paid. You must secure your order by paying (usually by PayPal) in advance. Please bring a copy of the PayPal receipt with you to the pickup site. Prompt payment is a condition of membership. We cannot facilitate any retail "Point of Sale" transactions at our location.
5. You agree to contribute a 10% "co-op fee" towards the overhead of our food buying club. This fee is added by the ordering application to your invoice as a separate fee. The fee may increase or decrease as required to cover our expenses.
6. You agree to be active and support our food buying club by helping out as you are able. The main area of need is sorting orders.
7. You agree to stay informed of pick up times and locations by checking our message board, and to pick up your food in a timely manner. We are not a giant retail supermarket with acres of cold storage. We do not have the ability to hold large numbers of orders past operating hours, especially if refrigerated or frozen items are involved. Food left past operating hours may be discarded or donated.
8. We understand that emergencies happen on pick up day. If this happens to you, please call us as soon as possible. The earlier we know about a situation, the better we will be able to deal with it.
9. We inspect and pack all orders prior to pickup. In the event that product is damaged, we will provide a credit provided that a report is made within 24 hours. In some cases, we may require that damaged goods are returned to the pick-up location within 24 hours.
10. Our goal is to provide high quality food at a great value, and we require our vendors to deliver market-grade products and to be in compliance with all local, state and federal laws. You understand that since our vendors do not use pesticides or herbicides, fruits and vegetables may not look "perfect."
11. Please keep your contact information current on our records. We encourage you to list cell phone numbers on your membership, so we can contact you directly if there is a problem. If you change your email address, you must notify us.
12. For members approved as vendors, these Terms of Service include the Producer Procedures and Standards.
